Michiro Ueyama (上山 道郎) is a manga author and illustrator.

Overview

Michiro Ueyama is best known as the author and illustrator of the manga series Zoids: Chaotic Century and Tsumanuda Fight Town. He is also the older brother of Tetsuro Ueyama, the creator of Metal Guardian Faust and Solevision Mitsuyoshi. Michiro Ueyama's art style is highly polished, with crisp lineart, solid anatomy, strong attention to detail and superb motion dynamics, making him well suited as an illustrator for action/adventure stories. Fanservice is one of the hallmarks of Ueyama's art, showing a penchant for voluptuous women and cute girls. Indeed, the vast majority of the significant characters outside of the main cast in the Zoids: Chaotic Century manga are female; even certain Zoids, such as Wendeen, Oluga and Horai, have female humanoid spiritual avatars, despite Zoids otherwise being genderless mechanoid animals.

As the author of the Zoids: Chaotic Century manga, from which the anime was loosely adapted, Ueyama is notable as the creator of some of the Zoids franchise's most significant characters, such as Van, Fiona, Zeke, Irvine, Moonbay, Raven and Shadow. He also designed various Zoids that are unique to the Chaotic Century manga, such as the Stealth Dragon, Liger Zero Ceaser and Berserk Fury Shadow Edge.

Ueyama appears to be a fan of the classic manga Doraemon. The lead female character from Tsumanuda Fight Town wears blue and is named "Dorae", and he has drawn fan art depicting Zeke and other characters in Doraemon's art style.
