Geno Saurer (1999, Japan, Tomy)
Model type: Battery-op

Overview

Though nominally a Tyrannosaurus-type Zoid, the Geno Saurer bears only an extremely superficial resemblance to one. It can more accurately be described as faster, more compact version of the Death Saurer, with which it shares much of its overall aesthetic; particularly in the design of its head, shoulders, chest and hindlimbs. Whereas the Death Saurer was clearly inspired by Godzilla, the horizontal posture of the Geno Saurer reflects the cultural awareness of the new scientific consensus regarding the nature of dinosaurs, which was popularized during the 1990s by the first two Jurassic Park films.

Borrowing from its larger relative, the Geno Saurer is robust, heavily armoured and bristling with firepower. Its claim to fame is its Charged Particle Cannon, a scaled-down version of the Death Saurer's primary weapon that fires a beam of electrically charged subatomic particles. Though extremely powerful, it has a low rate of fire and can't beam-sweep; it must stabilize itself with the foot locks on its hind legs to fire its cannon. A double barrelled pulse laser rifle on its back and a smaller gun on top of its head compliment the Charged Particle Cannon as support weapons. A pair of thrusters on its ankles allow it to reach speeds in excess of 200kph. The Geno Saurer can be further upgraded into the Geno Breaker or Geno Ritter.
