Overview

Though many Zoids during the 80s were identified as tyrannnosaurs, all stood in the outdated "tripod" posture and more clearly inspired by Japanese giant monsters such as Godzilla than any real dinosaur. The Berserk Fury stands in a horizontal posture, reflecting the changes in public perception about dinosaurs during the 1990s thanks to the popularity of the first two Jurassic Park movies. In contrast to the sharklike Berserk Fury, the Gairyuki's appearence is more exotic and draconian, as reflected in its name, which means "Shining Victory Dragon".

Developed from the same chassis as the Berserk Fury, the Gairyuki is equipped with special ray absorbing panels on its armour, capable of projecting an invisible barrier that can dissolve and absorb energy beams (such as a charged particle beam). It then uses this energy to supercharge its charged particle cannon. The ray absorbing panels can also absorb solar energy. The Gairyuki can detatch its armour to form two small support Zoids; a Horseshoe Crab, called "Gekkou", and a bird, called "Hien". Though dispatching Gekkou and Hien allows the Gairyuki to gain an advantage of numbers over an opponent, it also leaves the Gairyuki itself vulnerable to attack.
