The Descendant Theory is an example of fanon which surmises that various characters in the New Century anime are descendants of characters from Chaotic Century.

Overview

The connection between Chaotic Century and New Century is fuzzy. Though it is never explicitly stated in the show that New Century is a sequel to Chaotic Century, there are numerous hints that tie them together into a single continuity, such as Mount Iselina and the Ultrasaurus' gravity cannon. New Century also has characters who are superficially similar to those who appear in Chaotic Century. The descendant theory runs with these ideas and proposes that certain characters in New Century are distant relatives of their "counterparts" in Chaotic Century; pairings factor heavily into who is descended from who.

Common themes

Though dozens of variations exist, the most common version of the theory goes as follows:

  • Van + Fiona = Bit
  • Irvine + Moonbay = Brad
  • Thomas + (Insert character) = Harry
  • Raven + Rease = Vega (or Sarah)
  • Rosso + Viola = Jamie (or Pierce)

The theory also proposes that the black boxes of the Liger Zero and the Berserk Fury are literal organoids, permanantly fused to the core of their host, rather than simply being extremely advanced AI programs as stated in the show itself. It is often assumed that Zeke fused with Van's Blade Liger, metamorphosing it into the Liger Zero, and that Shadow fused with Raven's Geno Breaker, metamorphosing it into the Berserk Fury. Under this variation of the theory, the Liger Zero and Berserk Fury would have chosen Bit and Vega to be their pilots on account of their ancestry.

Alleged evidence

Certain characters bear a physical resemblance or behave similarly to their alleged ancestors. For example, Bit's spiky hair and facial structure loosely resemble Van's, but he is blonde, like Fiona. Brad's somewhat greedy and conniving nature resembles Moonbay's, and he is a mercenary who pilots a Command Wolf, like Irvine. Vega looks almost exactly like a younger, friendlier Raven, and Sarah has blue hair and a forceful, calculating personality like Rease.

Ultimate X Zoids and Organoids both exhibit greater intelligence than normal Zoids, assist and communicate with their pilots, have legendary status and are extremely rare. The black boxes are shaped like dinosaur skulls, which fans have interpreted as resembling Organoids. The Blade Liger and Geno Breaker are superficially similar to the Liger Zero and Berserk Fury, with both Ligers being high-performance melee specialists, and the latter both being Tyrannosaurs with back-mounted arm weapons and boosters.

Discrepancies

Physical resemblances do not necessarily denote ancestry; the similarities between the CC cast and the NC cast could just be a coincidence. From an out-of-universe perspective, the artists were most likely relying on tried and true shōnen genre conventions to easily convey information to the viewers, rather than making a statement about their ancestry (eg: spiky hair = hot blooded shōnen hero.)

The "Organoid System" appears to be an Organoid In Name Only. The abilities of the Ultimate X, as described by Dr. Laon, are not consistant with those displayed by literal Organoids, which do not store combat data or adapt to the enemy's fighting style. The Berserk Fury's armour was constructed by the Backdraft; why would Shadow metamorphose the Geno Breaker into a bare chassis with no armour or usable weapons?
