'''Toonami''' is a programming block on Cartoon Network that specialises in action cartoons and anime.

"Toonami" is a portmanteau of "cartoon" and "tsunami", suggesting a "tidal wave" of cartoons. The block is notable for its dark and edgy tone, with framing sequences featuring a computer animated robot host named "T.O.M" voiced by Steven Blum, as well as commercial bumpers and promos with voicovers by Peter Cullen. Toonami was highly influential in creating a mainstream audience for anime in the West. It originally ran on weekday afternoons from 1997-2004, until being moved to Saturday night and eventually being cancelled in 2008 due to poor ratings. After a test run on April 1st 2012, Toonami was officially revived the following May in response to positive viewer feedback via Twitter.

After an initial run at 6:30am, [[Zoids: New Century]] premiered on Toonami in 2001 on weekday afternoons at 5:00pm, where it scored modest ratings and a positive reception. It would continue to air until it was eventually replaced in 2002 by [[Zoids: Chaotic Century]], which got low ratings and was cancelled before it could complete its run, though the [[Final Four]] was eventually broadcast in 2003. [[Zoids: Fuzors]] was never aired on Toonami, instead being featured on its "Saturday Entertainment System" block on Saturday evenings, where it had replaced reruns of New Century.
