==Overview==
Many of the characters in the Chaotic Century anime and manga have facial markings. For example, [[Van Flyheight (Chaotic Century Anime)|Van]] has a red stripe on his left cheek. The markings are usually very simple, involving one or more colored rectangle or wedge shapes, placed on a character's face. Some characters have more intricate designs, such as [[Raven (Chaotic Century Anime)|Raven]], [[Prozen (Chaotic Century Anime)|Prozen]] and one of the Crossbow Brothers. [[Moonbay (Chaotic Century Anime)|Moonbay]] has two pink stripes on her right cheek. Some characters do not have markings however, such as [[Irvine (Chaotic Century Anime)|Irvine]], [[Dr. D (Chaotic Century Anime)|Dr. D]]., [[Rudolph (Chaotic Century Anime)|Rudolph]], and [[Karl Schubaltz (Chaotic Century Anime)|Karl Schubaltz]]. There is only one instance of facial markings being removed or changed and that is of [[Rosso (Chaotic Century Anime)|Rosso]] and [[Viola (Chaotic Century Anime)|Viola]]'s when they re-appear in later in the series. This indicates that the facial markings represent some kind of war paint rather than a tattoo or birthmark.

No canonical explaination for Facial Markings have ever been offered in the manga or anime. They may represent alignment between the factions; neutral characters such as Dr. D and Irvine's lack of markings support this theory. Many soldiers in the Imperial Army have a red mark on their chins (such as Marcus). They may also be family or gang markings; for example, everyone in the Desert Arcobaleno gang has a long purple stripe from cheek to cheek across the nose.

Over the years, facial markings appear to have fallen out of fashion, with [[Jack Cisco]] being the only character in [[Zoids: New Century (Anime)|New Century]] to have one.
