Demantises were mass-produced by the Backdraft Group and served a utilitarian function, being used for construction and excavation in addition to combat. The Zoid's arsenal features a back mounted gatling gun and various light, rapid fire weapons on its forelimbs and thorax, in addition to raptorial forelimbs for close combat; by attacking on masse from all sides, the Demantis were able to pose a significant challenge to the Blitz team, overwhelming them with sheer weight of numbers to compensate for their smaller size. Despite their minor role, the Demantis expressed a high degree of intelligence, exhibiting comical behaviour and making anthropomorphic guestures with their forelimbs and antennae, mirroring the feelings of their pilots. The first character shown to pilot one was Dr. Laon, lending credence to the possibility that he may have personally designed the Zoid for the Backdraft Group as he did with the [[Shadow Fox (New Century Anime)|Shadow Fox]] prior. <br />

The design of the Demantis in the anime differs slightly from the model kit; the gatling gun has a closed canopy, the pilot's feet are unexposed, and the antennae are grey instead of green. However, it is possible to swap the spare grey antennae included with the Diloforce or Grounchar model kits to build a more "anime accurate" Demantis.<br />
